The inquiry into children’s language acquisition has shifted in the past 25 years in ways both profound and, perhaps, not so profound, yielding several themes that dominate current thinking about the enterprise. These themes have to do with the CHILD who is acquiring the language, THEORY about the language the child acquires, and the ESSENTIAL TENSION that is necessary for development of both t...

Examining the Intersections between Child Maltreatment and Intimate Partner Violence

Intimate partner violence (IPV) against women and child maltreatment (CM) have been traditionally addressed in isolation by researchers, policy makers and programs. Space Curves as Complete Intersections

This is an expository account based mainly on an article by Jack Ohm titled “Space curves as ideal-theoretic intersections”. It also gives a proof of the fact that smooth space curves can be realized as set-theoretic complete intersections. The penultimate section proves the theorem of Cowsik and Nori : Curves in affine n-space of characteristic p are set-theoretic complete intersection.

Homoclinic Intersections and Mel'nikov Method for Perturbed sine -Gordon Equation

We describe and characterize rigorously the homoclinic structure of the perturbed sine{ Gordon equation under periodic boundary conditions. The existence of invariant manifolds for a perturbed sine{Gordon equation is established. Mel'nikov method, together with geometric analysis are used to assess the persistence of the homoclinic orbits under bounded and time-periodic perturbations.
